So, you didn’t win a bib for this year’s popular Broad Street Run—you’re not alone. According to Philly.com, 6,600 other hopefuls received that rejection email, as well. Even more potential participants were turned down this year than last year, when the race officials had to turn away about 4,800 runners.
Luckily, though, the Broad Street Run is not the only run in town, and there are plenty of others to keep you in shape while you wait for next year’s lottery. The best part is, you’ll be able to spend that would-be $43 doing good for some incredible organizations. The second-best part? All of these races are using the state-of-the-art chip timing technology from SpectaSport, so you’ll know your results instantly!
Here are our favorite upcoming spring races that are sure to keep you busy until the next Broad Street Run:
- March 4, 2017: Mt. Holly St. Patrick’s Day 5K, Mt. Holly, NJ
This race, which is part of a full day of St. Patty’s celebration, is sure to be a blast. How do we know? Because each runner’s ticket also guarantees them a free beer at the post-race beer garden. Come dressed in green and bring the whole family (the Fun Walk section is stroller-friendly!), then stay to watch the area’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade! ALL of the proceeds benefit the Mt. Holly Recreation Programs.
- April 22, 2017: Thin Blue Line 5K, Philadelphia, PA
Runners and walkers are both welcome at this 5K to benefit the Michael the Archangel Ministry program, an organization that provides pastoral care, crisis ministry and spiritual enrichment opportunities to 14,000 members of the Philadelphia Lodge #5 Fraternal Order of the Police (and their families!). Show our active and retired officers you’re grateful for their service by running alongside other supporters!
- April 29, 2017: Miles 4 Music 5K, Plymouth Meeting, PA
How do you make a fundraiser 5K for the music program at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School even better? By bringing in live music and a DJ (brought to you by Today’s 96.5) to kick things off! The race is also just 5 minutes away from the new Legoland attraction at the Plymouth Meeting Mall, so bring the kids and make a day of it! The Miles 4 Music 5K has it all: food and goodies from local businesses, raffles, giveaways, awards and a great cause! Every entry received before April 3 gets a free t-shirt!
- May 6, 2017: Metropolitan Veterinary Associates 5K, Norristown, PA
The MVA is putting on a spectacular race to benefit the Paws of Promise Foundation, an organization that helps good pet owners who are having trouble funding their pet’s emergency veterinary care. No pet deserves to go without the care they need, so grab a couple friends and sign up to run this race at the beautiful Lower Perkiomen Valley Park!
- May 6, 2017: Race to the Top of New Jersey, High Point State Park, NJ
This 5K is not for the faint of heart, but the spectacular panoramic views will be well worth the effort it takes to get to the peak of this course: 1.803 feet above sea level! It’s the first ever race of it’s kind, so you’ll want to sign up quickly before spots fill up. Plus, all entries before April 20 get a free commemorative t-shirt!
- May 7, 2017: Creative Rush 5K, Layton, NJ
Itching to run on those traffic-free roads? We don’t blame you! You’ll get your chance when they close down the roads at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area just for the runners of this 5K! As if the beautiful scenery at this 300-acre sprawling campus wasn’t enough, this race is part of a weekend with live music, food, studio tours and live-art demonstrations and lessons! Tickets are only $25 until March 31, so register soon!
- May 13, 2017: Run for the Animals 5K, Brigantine, NJ
Spend Mother’s Day at the beach this year and help marine animals in need! Proceeds go to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, and organization that responds to and rescues hundreds of stranded dolphins, whales, seals and sea turtles each year. The post-race buffet from Laguna Grill and Rum Bar is widely considered the best in New Jersey, but don’t take it from us—see for yourself!
