Hosting a 5K walk or run is a proven way to bring awareness to and raise money for your nonprofit or cause. But race planning and race management in Philadelphia is no small task. A great deal of detailed planning goes into planning a successful 5K.
With that in mind, we’ve put together some tips to get you started in planning your first 5K fundraiser!
Keep it Simple Your First Time Around
You want the event to be a success and for everyone to have a good time, so it can be tempting to pull out all the bells and whistles when planning your 5K. But if this is your first attempt at race management, it’s best to keep things straightforward. You don’t need to have three separate courses and t-shirts in a hundred different sizes. Do yourself the favor of keeping things simple this first time around—focus on the things that really matter, like ensuring your participants can see their results instantly.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time
There is a lot of logistical planning and coordinating that will go into the race management of a 5K. If this is your first time, you will want to give yourself plenty of time to plan. We recommend choosing a date at least six months out to allow for the learning curve that comes with planning your first event.
Check Out Other 5K Fundraisers
Success leaves clues. Going to other popular 5K fundraisers is a great way to see what works and what doesn’t. You will get ideas and inspiration to bring to your event. Check out these upcoming races in and around the Greater Philadelphia area—most of these sell out every year! For a beautiful weekend with panoramic views, great art, delicious food and live music—stop by the Sussex County Doubleheader Race Weekend on May 6 and 7, 2017. Two days, two scenic, traffic-free 5Ks and whole lot of fun.
